Title 1

School Compact

The Cumberland staff, parents, and students will work as partners to foster a positive learning environment. This compact has been developed and describes school and family responsibilities.

As a staff we pledge to:

  • Provide the necessary materials for effective instruction to achieve the State’s high standards.
  • Provide a safe school environment that promotes learning and encourages a partnership with the school (e.g. volunteering, tutoring, room parent, and field trips.)
  • Meet individual needs by creating centers of interest and using a variety of teaching techniques.
  • Employ effective classroom management skills.
  • Provide appropriate homework to reinforce the skills that have been taught at school.
  • Communicate with parents regularly about their child’s progress.
  • Schedule an annual parent-teacher conference to discuss academic and behavior progress.
  • Come to school on time prepared to teach the approved state and local curriculum.
  • Provide opportunities to learn life survival skills.
  • Promote a feeling of belonging for all.
  • Schedule an annual meeting to discuss with parents the Parent School COMPACT, Parent Involvement Policy, and School-wide Plan.

As a parent/guardian I (we) will:

  • Read to my child or have my child read to me every day.
  • Show respect with my words and actions for my child, other children and their families, the teachers, and the school.
  • Provide a place for homework and check to see that all work is completed.
  • Ask my child about schoolwork and activities every day.
  • Communicate and work with the school to encourage my child’s learning and positive behavior.
  • See that my child attends school regularly and on time.
  • Attend parent/teacher conferences to discuss my child’s academic progress or lack of progress, behavior, and ways I can help my child achieve his/hers greatest potential. Communicate with the school about any changes in address or phone numbers throughout the year.
  • Review and sign the School-Wide Behavior Assessment Sheet daily.

As a student, I will:

  • Take pride in the school.
  • Believe that the student can learn and will learn.
  • Complete class work and homework.
  • Follow the school rules.

a. Always respect myself and others.

b. Use inside voices within the school.

c. Always be prepared to listen and learn.

d. Treat others the way I want to be treated.

  • Be responsible for my actions and behavior each day.
  • Be a good citizen by doing what is right because it is the right thing to do for others and myself.

As the Principal, I will:

· Provide an environment that allows for positive communication among teachers, staff, parents, and students.

· Encourage teachers to regularly provide homework assignments that will reinforce classroom instruction.

· Introduce new educational opportunities for all students.

· Provide opportunities that encourage parents to be involved at school through volunteering, conferences, participating in children’s classes, and observing classroom activities.

The Title 1 Program of the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools encourages and seeks out parents to work as volunteers with schools in the education of their children.

If you have any comments and/or any suggestions for improvement concerning the Family/School COMPACT, please write them on paper and put them in the Title 1 suggestion box located in the school office. Or, you may send your suggestions to your child’s teacher. The Title 1 committee will review all suggestions received and make changes if necessary. We value your input.
